At Legal Aid Corporation of Tippecanoe County, we’re here to help light the way forward. You don’t have to face legal challenges alone. Thanks to the support of our community and the dedication of our volunteers, we provide essential legal services to help low-income individuals and families move toward a more secure future.

We offer a range of legal services to eligible residents of Tippecanoe County, Indiana. While we do not handle criminal cases or fee-generating litigation, we are here to assist with many other legal matters that can significantly impact your life and well-being.

To Qualify for Legal Aid’s Help

  1. You must RESIDE in Tippecanoe County,
  2. Your CASE MUST BE in Tippecanoe County,
  3. You MUST meet the financial requirements.

 

When you Submit an Application, we will ask for Proof of AT LEAST the following:

  1. Address (Current ID, Mail, or Bills are acceptable)
  2. Last four weeks of income for all adults in your household, including spouses or live-in significant others. This includes any child support you receive; bank statements (if paystubs are unable to be produced)
  3. If there is no income, please bring a handwritten note signed by you and a witness
    1. Example: “I, [applicant name], am not employed and have not been employed since [date]. I am not receiving any income.”

  • Divorce/Separations
  • Custody/Visitation
  • Grandparent Rights
  • Adoption
  • Name Changes
  • Guardianship
  • Power of Attorney (POA)
  • Small Claims and Consumer Defense (Less than 5,000)
  • Paternity (Once Established)
  • Landlord/Tenant/Eviction/Foreclosure
  • CHINS/DCS (Ask for a Public Defender from our Office)

Legal Aid does not help with:

  • Criminal Cases
  • DUI/DWI
  • Traffic violations
  • Worker’s Compensation
  • Bankruptcy
  • Last Will and Testament
  • Trusts/Torts
  • Cases that generate money
  • HIPPA Violations
  • VISA Applications
  • Seeking Asylum
